Recruitment information for providers

Leeds City Council’s We Care Academy works with care providers across Leeds to help support business and ensure that the care sector in Leeds is vibrant, diverse, and staffed appropriately with people who have the right values, behaviours and skills.

We are aware of existing recruitment and retention pressures within the care sector and our aim is to work with social care providers in Leeds to support the recruitment and retention of good quality staff for the social care sector.

We are doing this through the ‘Step into Care’ recruitment programme, which uses a values-based recruitment method to support people into employment within the sector.

For employers the We Care academy will do the following:

  • values-based recruitment process
  • numeracy and literacy assessments
  • carry out right to work checks
  • obtain and check IDs
  • complete and pay for an enhanced portable DBS
  • obtain references

We ask providers to offer:

  • one-week unpaid shadowing experience of up to a maximum of 30 hours
  • guaranteed interview for a vacant position, following the shadowing experience

If you are interested in knowing how we can support you further with your recruitment needs through this programme, please contact us on the details below, and a member of the team will come back to you to discuss this in more detail.
