Nutritional Care Refresher for All Staff Working in Frontline Services – Workbook

Course details

This refresher workbook is for all staff working in direct delivery of older people’s services and learning disability services and can be used to refresh knowledge if staff have previously attended a classroom session. This workbook explores the values of improving nutritional care and gives information to build on knowledge. There is a range of questions and a scenario which will meet the requirements for the service that you work in. At the end of the workbook, you will be required to answer some multiple choice questions to show that you have understood the content of the workbook. Following this training you will: • Reflect on why nutrition and hydration are important and how they apply to the setting you work in. • Understand the principles of good nutritional care which make up the Leeds Food Consensus and your role in providing these. • Encourage healthy, positive dietary changes which are specific to the individual. • Consider when further support is required. • Know how to use “Food First” principles and manage undernutrition. • Be aware of dietary management for long term conditions e.g. diabetes. • Increase your awareness of swallowing difficulties and aspiration.
