This refresher workbook is for all staff working in Adult Social Care services who handle food and can be used to refresh knowledge if staff have previously attended a classroom session. This workbook explores the key principles of food hygiene and looks at best practice in relation to good food safety, cross-contamination, preventing food poisoning, storing high risk foods and using the HACCP and COSHH standards. At the end of the workbook, you will be required to answer some multiple choice questions to show that you have understood the content of the workbook. This is a document to be downloaded from PAL and printed out then completed by hand and marked by managers. It is not completed online on the PAL system. Following this training you will: • Recognise the importance of food safety and the possible consequences of poor food hygiene • Know what cross-contamination is and how to prevent it • Recognise causes and symptoms of food poisoning and understand the procedures used to safeguard against it • Be able to identify high risk foods and know how to handle them safely • Be aware of the most common allergens and know how to handle them safely • Understand the key principles of HACCP and COSHH • Understand the role of cleaning in maintaining good food hygiene • Know how personal hygiene affects food safety

Our free training offer is only available to social care providers that support individuals living in Leeds.

Our traded leadership and management training offer is open to all social care providers.
