Apprenticeships

Why is it good to do an apprenticeship?

It’s an opportunity to earn, learn and develop skills. Gain knowledge that is practical and applied. The skills learnt are directly relevant to a chosen career where you gain hands on experience in that area.

Apprenticeship Levy Scheme

Apprenticeships are funded by the Apprenticeship Levy Scheme. If your organisation or company don’t have an apprenticeship Levy pot or need support to top this up please consider seeking funding from other organisations who have funds to transfer. Search funding opportunities. Leeds City Council has funds to share and specifically supports the care sector within the region.

Functional Skills

With all apprenticeships it is a requirement that the learner holds or works towards a functional skills qualification as follows:

  • level 2 apprenticeship: functional skills level 1 (Maths and English at GCSE grade D to G or equivalent)
  • level 3 and above apprenticeship: functional skills level 2 (Maths and English at GCSE grade C and above or equivalent)
